Good Results Take Time
How often are we in a rush to get things done in every department of our life. In work, we rush. At home, we rush. We even rush our aesthetic treatments hoping it would work faster and better than its natural pace. This rushing is all fine and dandy when you need a 3 in 1-day cream that moisturises, improves signs of ageing and contains and SPF. However, certain things can’t be rushed. You don’t go to a wine farm, pick a few grapes, stomp on it, bottle the juices and voila have wine. It takes a time consuming and detailed process to deliver that Merlot to your dinner table.
Take anti-wrinkle injections as an example. Some clients won’t necessarily see a huge improvement after the first treatment. This could be due to strong muscle activity or even static lines that formed over time, that might need a combination of injections, topical treatments and home care. Pigmentation and acne on the other hand, need a course of treatments, usually 4-6. However, this could take longer, we do, after all, live in a sunny and polluted country that spurs on pigmentation and acne. I can however vouch for myself when I say, the patient game is not fun, but it has paid off immensely. My skin has never looked better!**
There are however a few things that can speed up and slow down the process. It will be good for you to know what they are so that you can walk into your Aesthetic Clinic, prepared. Here are a few:
Speed up your results
Combination treatments can help to improve and speed up your results. For example, if the concern is fine lines and wrinkles, anti-wrinkle injections and topical peels/laser treatments work well together to give you the best results as opposed to doing one or the other.
Preparing for your concern
If your skin is well prepared with home care that targets your concern, your skin is more responsive to the treatment. A good pigmentation home care product should help with the improvement in your pigmentation concern (the same goes for acne and your other concerns). Following a good eating plan while doing fat dissolving or body contouring treatments can help improve weight loss, cellulite and other concerns. It’s all about the holistic approach.
Following pre and post care protocol down to the last punctuation
If you follow pre-and post-care protocols, the risk of you worsening your concern is decreased, and you foster an improved recovery process for your skin/body.
Slowed down results
Some supplements/medication can make your concern worse or decrease the efficacy time. Products like hormone supplements have been known to worsen pigmentation and even make the pigmentation more stubborn (same as the impact of hormones when a woman is pregnant). Other products that speed up your metabolism (like dieting supplements) can decrease the time that your anti-wrinkle injections should last. There might not be a way to get the best of both, but it is good to be aware of the possible cause and effect that your supplements have on your body and aesthetic treatments. Make sure to ask your doctor about these.
Poor follow through
We have seen some of our clients not achieve the results that they wish they had due to poor follow through. They either don’t complete their course of treatments, come for stipulated follow ups with the doctor or don’t follow their pre and post-care properly. It is imperative to do as the doctor or aesthetic assistant tells you, as those protocols have been thoroughly researched.
Excessive sun and heat exposure
Heat and sun exposure contribute to the formation of pigmentation, follicle build up, breaks down collagen and elastin and can cause dryness and dehydration (among other things). This can all cause regression in your treatment results. Our go to is sunblock, sunblock and some more sunblock. If you can take both topical and oral sun protection, do so.
Stubbornness of the concern
Some concerns are just more stubborn to treat, and some skins/bodies are much less responsive to treatments to others. It is important to keep an open mind when doing your treatment that you might have a stubborn concern or a low response to treatments and products. However, still question the treatment should results be slow. You never know if there is an underlying concern that may cause the slow response time.
So, all good things take time. Pace yourself and if your results appear sooner than expected, BONUS! Contact us for more information on how to treat your concerns more effectively.
